KIEV.UA Domain Policy comes into effect on March 15, 2007.

In this connection, the procedure for updating registration data of "name.kiev.ua" domains begins.

The geographic public domain KIEV.UA was delegated at the beginning of 1993. Since then, nearly 65,000 private domains have been registered in this domain. However, the requirements to domain service have changed significantly over 14 years, and currently, the level of services provided in free registration domains is completely unacceptable for a geographic domain of a European capital. The implementation of the KIEV.UA Domain Policy will promote the development of this geographic domain, enhance its status and help achieve global standards of services in domains of the capital region.

The main purpose of updating domain data is to ensure favorable conditions for providing domain services, which will help improve the quality of services in the KIEV.UA domain and bring registration, administration, and technical maintenance in line with world standards and the requirements of Ukrainian legislation.

The new Policy makes domain squatting more complicated and Ukrainian domains unattractive for spammers. In addition, the Policy establishes a guaranteed timeframe, within which updated private third-level domains must be delegated, which will help reduce the quantity of "dead" domains, i.e., registered but not used domains, on Ukrainian Internet.

The updating of third-level "name.kiev.ua" domains will be carried out during the March 15, 2007 . May 31, 2007 period and funded by the .UA domain administrator Hostmaster LLC with no extra charge from users.
